The Most Important Thing about having a Home Based Business is Staying Focused

If you have worked in a traditional office building for most of your working life, it will take a while to get used to working from home. When you finally take the plunge and start your own home business, it is a strange transition. There will be no more 5AM or 6AM alarms to set for those long and sometimes stressful commutes, in traffic that only seems to get worse. There are no longer any set lunch breaks or meetings with your boss. After a lot of serious thinking, you finally decided to work from home, maybe you are selling your own products, or have decided to start consulting on independent financial advice. This decision all came down to wanting to be your own boss and do what you love from the comfort of your own home. In your mind, this decision looked and sounded nice, but all of a sudden you have these distractions. Now what do you do?
The first thing you need to do is email all your family and friends and let them know you are working. Let them know you can not be disturbed. Even though you are working from home, this does not mean you are available to them whenever they need you. This, of course, can be done in a kind way. If you have an instant message program you use with your email provider, write a custom message like, “Working, please do not disturb”, “No calls until. . .”, “Call me after . . .” These are good ways you can communicate with your family and friends, without creating a rude environment or bad attitude.
If you are Mommy or Daddy, and are not fond of having your children at home with you, while working, look for a babysitter or daycare close to your home. Depending on how well, and fast, you can accomplish your work, in five days; your children can stay on daycare or with a babysitter for three to four hours. This is usually all the time you need to sell your products and talk to your clients.
The above problems are usually the things which slow down any work at home business owner. If any of these problems can be changed, it will not only allow you to stay focused; it will make your business grow beyond what you ever imagined.
