Economy Woes

posted by admin in Uncategorized

Today I want to have a little rant about the state of our economy in the United Kingdom which by reading the news never seems to be getting any better. Once again unemployment rates are startling high and I read recently that the unemployment rate in the 18-24 age group is 22%. That is really quite astonishing because it basically means a quarter of our young adults are out of work, and probably the majority of then have been for some time.

Inherently the problem in this age group lies in experience, when a position is advertised by a recruitment company or business in is now not uncommon for them to now receive well over a hundred applications for the post, sometime many times more than this. Invariably a large proportion of these applicants will be from older age groups, people who have probably been made redundant from their previous post. These candidates are bringing with them on their CV a wealth of knowledge and experience that young adults are much less likely to have, consequently it makes much more sense for the business top recruit the experienced candidate when both are willing to work for the same wage.
